Devices
Use the Devices page to view and test your individual CloudPRNT devices.
When opened, the devices page will show a table of your devices, including its Device identifier (based on its hardware Mac address), Name, Status, Paper Level, Paper Size, Last Connection, Device Group "path", the printers Access ID, and how many print jobs are currently queued for this device. Device information is refreshed regularly, so device status will be shown as it changes. If a device goes offline then that will be reflected on the page within seconds.
The device table can be sorted by clicking on most of the column headings. If you have multiple Device Groups, then you can click on the teal filter button to display the devices from a specific group only.
Some helpful management and testing options are available via a drop-down menu, by clicking on the [...]
button for each device. Options will vary depending on your account type, but commonly include:
- Copy Path - copy the devices path name to the clipboard. The path name is used by the application API to identify a Device Group
- Copy Access ID - Copy the Access ID for your device to the clipboard. An Access ID is used by the application API to identify a specific device within a Device Group.
- Change Name - change the name of your device, it is highly recommended to assign a useful identifying name to all devices. This name will be stored in your device, and in teh case of Star printers, will be printed on the devices self-test print for easy identification.
- Reset Paper Size Information - If you have configured a different paper width for your printer, then selecting this will ask the server to re-query the paper information from your printer. Paper width information is essential for correctly scaling and word wrapping documents to render correctly on your device.
- Re-Print Welcome Message - Trigger printing the "Welcome" page that prints automatically when a new device is connected to the service.
- Send an EMail to this device - opens your local email client with the correct address to sending email based print jobs to this device. Note that this will work only if the Email Printing Bridge service is enabled too.
- Print A Local File - Allow you to use upload a file to the service from your web browser for printing to this device. Any printable document format supported by the service can be uploaded, such as HTML, Star Document Markup, Png, Jpeg, plain text.
- Clear Print Queue - Delete all jobs currently in the printing queue. This can be helpful to clear out of date queued print jobs from ta printer that has been offline for some time.
- Generate New App Access ID - Generate a new, randomly assigned Access ID for this device. This can be useful to ensure that an application that is currently sending unwanted jobs to this device can be stopped. This can be especially useful if a key-less printing method is enabled, such as the email printing bridge, or the key-less legacy printing API.
- Delete - Delete this device from the Device Group. Please note that if the device is still connected to the service, and if your Device Group has the
Auto create queue for new devices
option enabled, then the device will be re-added to the group when it next communicates with the service.
Warning
Note that it is only possible to change the name of a device if it is currently switched on and connected to the service, because CloudPRNT Device names are stored in the device itself.
